Norah Wellings Sailor Boy from the Queen Mary

$145.00

We are delighted to offer a creation by the beloved British doll maker Norah Wellings (1893-1975.) This happy little sailor was originally sold as a souvenir aboard the legendary WWII era British ocean liner, RMS Queen Mary. He features a felt face with nicely molded and painted character features including side-glancing eyes fringed in full lashes (slight discoloration to white of left eye), and a delightful smile with vividly painted lips and a row of teeth. His head of delicately shaded ginger hair is topped with a cream cotton sailor cap inscribed “Queen Mary” on the ribbon covered brim. His sweet sailor costume (once blue, now faded to a nice taupe, minor remnants of original blue color remain) is incorporated into his firmly stuffed plush velvet body and features a blue collar, coiled rope embellishment, stitched mitt style hands and delightful feet of black velvet.
A tag sewn to the bottom of his left foot reads "Made in England by Norah Wellings.”

Measures: 8" tall
