From the “Poems of Childhood” series by R. John Wright and based on the artwork of American illustrator Jessie Willcox Smith, we are pleased to present “Babes in the Wood.” This sweetly mournful brother and sister duo feature fully jointed felt bodies and fine facial painting and molding. If you look closely, you can see several applied translucent acrylic tears on each child’s face - the poor babes! Their beautifully tailored costumes are straight out of a fairy tale; her ensemble features a pieced red and ochre laced felt bodice, gauze blouse and goldenrod yellow gauze skirt. A red cap is perched on her wig of dark strawberry blonde mohair. Underneath, she wears a fine cotton slip, tulle underskirt and pantaloons. Cream stockings and red leather shoes tied with cream silk ribbons complete her look. He wears a blue felt tunic that laces at the chest, buttons at back and features a white cotton collar and cuffs and a brown leather belt. A tan felt cap is perched on his full head of dark strawberry blonde mohair. Underneath, he wears cream tights and black leather shoes tied with cream silk ribbons. Number 73 from a limited edition of 100, they are in excellent condition with paperwork and box (some fading to box).

She measures 16 1/4” tall.

He measures 17” tall.
