R. John Wright "Teddy Roosevelt Mississippi Bear Hunt"
In a charming and comical scene entitled, “Teddy Roosevelt Mississippi Bear Hunt” from R. John Wright, we witness the “birth” of the “Teddy bear,” when in 1902, then president Theodore Roosevelt spared the life of an adorable bear cub. This masterfully rendered figure has a fully jointed, wool felt body and holds a fully articulated brown bear cub (by a threaded loop) with a leather nose and side glancing glass eyes. He features fine facial molding and painting with painted blue eyes, metal rimmed spectacles and an open mouth in a triumphant grin. Other details include a light brown mohair wig and moustache. His expertly tailored felt costume is comprised of a belted tan coat (with working pockets), ochre trousers, a navy blue vest, kerchief and green felt hat. Finely crafted brown leather boots are covered by tan gaiters with brass buttons. Accessories include a fully loaded, felt bullet belt and a walnut rifle with leather strap.
