German China Lady In Victorian Mourning Costume

$695.00

A lovely china lady, this example features a sweetly expressive face and is dressed in what could be interpreted as an antique Victorian mourning costume. She features a perfect shoulderhead with beautiful molding and painting including blue eyes, deeply blushed cheeks and a painted black, flat top hairstyle with curls framing her face and sausage curls in the back (scattered, age related rubs to hair.)
Her original cloth body is in good condition (save for normal, age related wear) and features graceful china arms with spoon hands, china lower legs with pink garter ribbons and painted on ankle high boots (rubs to toes of boots.)
Her incredible, and original, two-piece ensemble is comprised of a full silk skirt with a ruffled hem (skirt in tender condition with a few areas of mending throughout.) The body of her long black coat is made of a fine gabardine (mellowed to a lovely shade of charcoal), and features a fitted waist, bustle back, silk trim throughout and buttons down the front (coat in fragile condition with scattered, age related damage, shredding to silk on buttons and areas of mending.) Underneath, she wears an antique cotton petticoat, pantaloons and camisole. A hand written paper label pinned to her waist reads “Susan.”
Measures: 18-3/4” tall.
