"Bagman's Baby" English Wax Over Papier Mache
"Bagman's Baby" English Wax Over Papier Mache
Sometimes referred to as a "Bagman's Baby" this early doll represents an English wax over papier mache, circa 1830. Details include a shoulderhead with the wax finish in quite good condition for its age, black pupil-less eyes, and her original mohair wig that was supplemented in back by stuffing the bun with fine straw, in order to save money in the production of the dolls.
On a cloth body fitted with leather arms, this example retains her original dress and shoes, plus she wears a wonderful black poke bonnet enhanced with flowers.
A true miracle doll for the lovers of the early examples.
Measures: 19" tall
