Handmade English Dollhouse
Handmade English Dollhouse
Perhaps more folk art than dollhouse, is a marvelous, early, handmade English house that features a lined brick paint finish over wooden construction. The windows in particular are extremely well made (all 19 of them, all with glass!) as is the mahogany front door. The roof is a mixture of beach sand and glue painted black. The house opens on the reverse by unlatching the back wall, revealing two floors and a removable mahogany staircase. The yellow paint (scattered flaking) on the walls appears to be original, as does the printed cotton upon the floors which acts as carpets. In good condition, but probably had a front step at some point – now gone. Circa 1840-60. A charmer to be sure that would make a most fantastic home to an extended family of wee Grodnertals!
